I am sitting here on the deck at the backpackers resort I am staying at here in Fiji for the next two nights. Since I have “free” internet access for a bit I figured I would write about some stuff lol
Yesterday while on the plane I happened to open the shade to the window I was sitting next to and was completely stunned at the beauty below me. Not because I have never seen it, but because I just wasn’t expecting it at that moment I guess. The beautiful shades of red and browns, patches of green and of course some sandy clay tones. All of these colors are blended or stacked one on top of the other for as far as the eye can see. Tall plateaus and deep valleys, and canyons and minuscule dirt roads strewn in between like little crevices. This isn’t a view you can just get by going to these places but way up high in the sky. I think a lot of us take flying for granted. We want to get from point A to point B as fast as we can (and sometimes a plane is the fastest way). We keep the shades shut for our movie screens/phones, or to not be blinded by the sun, but when we do sometimes the world literally passes us by.
After being on the plane from LAX to Fiji for about 11.5 hours (only 10.5 hours of flying) it is amazing what a small crappy toothbrush and some lame toothpaste that the airline gave to you will do for you at 4:52 in the morning!! The sun was about to come up but all I could see were clouds. I am looking forward to today (Saturday the 12th here in Fiji, the 11th for most of you) even though I am extremely exhausted and really want to sleep. I probably only got 6 hours of shut eye between my butt falling asleep, cold or the seat arms jamming into me. Although I can’t bitch too much since I had 2 seats to myself :)
So as I do sit here looking over the water listening to the small waves on the beach…I watch a company on their outing doing team building and it reminds me that, this team building they are doing is MORE of what people need to do in the US lol. Every now and then a nasty cigarette wafts my way and brings me back to a reality that not everywhere has banned the ability to smoke where you eat. (Sigh, oh the pains of tropical islands) hahaha
I am hoping that the cloudy skies go away and the sun comes out so I can enjoy some of it…till then I’m going to find myself a drink and keep on relaxing under this lovely umbrella!
Till next time!
