We are crazy!

In the last and final week of my training for the new job. I have been traveling into Boston for the past 5 weeks (this being my 6th) and I have to say, "we" are friggan nuts. This "we" I speak of is each and everyone of us who has a commute to work in god awful traffic. You really can't pay me enough to do this!
Seriously, there are 52 weeks in a year and five typical working days in each week. So that is 260 days that I have to commute to work. But if we take out that most people take about a week or two for personal sick days or vacation time that still leaves 250 days of driving to and from work. All of this traffic going into Boston is out of control. It is no wonder there are so many accidents! I swear people drive like they are the only ones on the road!!! I'm not perfect by any means, but we are not indestructible, and being in a vehicle going 80+ mph, is extremely dangerous.
Part of my commute I took a coach bus so I was able to not deal with the traffic and just relax. I don't do too well with major traffic, lets just say I try to curb my road rage. Being on this bus, as relaxing as it might be, may have been one of the scariest times. Not because I was scared for my safety at that point in time, but because being so high above everyone else I could see all of the people NOT paying attention. In the world that we live in technology has taken over a lot of our typical daily routines. I saw people texting, or checking emails....one woman was having a full video chat conversation!11! What is going??? How can anyone thing that any of this is ok? Oh but wait......we all say "I am safe when checking my text messages or calling someone"......are you really? NO! Because you have no idea what the other people around you are doing. Are they checking texts, distracted by a kid in the car, putting on makeup or doing a quick shave of that 5 o'clock shadow?
Here in Mass, I feel as though over the past few months, the speed limit which is 65mph has been silently moved to 80mph. I can be going between 70 and 75mph and there are TONS of people passing me on my left and right. So much for going with the flow of traffic!! It only takes a split second for something to happen, and that one second could be someone's last.
I worry that the new cars that are coming out with the blind spot notification is going to make people less aware of their surroundings when they drive because they are going to depend on this little function to tell them if someone is in the next lane and can they move. People already are careless when they change lanes, why are we making it easier to do that. I know that people will say, oh this is making it safer because it will tell you if someone is in your blind spot. How about we fix the design of a car so that there are LESS blind spots????? I remember looking to buy a newer car and getting into multiple ones and the first thing i noticed was how many blind spots there are. Make it easy for people to do the right thing! Don't start taking away our thinking.
Anyhoo, please be more careful when you get in the car and make that decision to text or what not....way too many people have had their lives changed because of it.
